Common Pollutants:
Forced air heating and cooling systems, exhaust vents and duct work are frequently found to be sources of indoor air pollutants. These include but are not limited to:
- Respirable airborne dust emissions
- Allergens
- Odors / VOC's
- Mold spores
- Carbon black (soot)
- Dander
- Pet hair, carpet fibers, insulation
- Viral growths
Frequent Causes:
- Improper design or duct work sizing
- Improper AC coil sizing
- Inadequate filtration levels
- Excessive moisture levels from:
- Impacted AC coils
- Plugged condensate drain
- Elevated RH levels around the HVAC unit
- Winter time condensation
- Defective or dirty humidifiers
- Improperly located fresh air intakes
- Damaged or leaking duct work
- Dirty duct work or registers
Note of CAUTION:
Excessive moisture combined with dusty duct work will create mold and bacterial growth inside your system. These fungal growths will create spores and MVOC's (Microbial Volatile Organic Compounds) that are distributed throughout the indoor air environment.
